When we first pulled up to the Safari Inn, the sign conjured up thoughts of jungle-themed rooms in my head. I was ornery from a long day on the road and a short night’s sleep, so impressing me was going to be a tall order.
But the Safari Inn did impress me. The nice lady behind the counter checked us in quickly at a great rate with a smile, and a piece of Swiss chocolate. Our room was definitely newly upgraded and impeccably clean. No bed bugs. Even though we were at the end of the building, the internet still worked great (even though for some reason I couldn’t send through my outlook express), as did the coffee maker and the in room mini-fridge.
The Safari Inn is conveniently reached on an access road just off the “Number One” and is located next to a number of gas stations and restaurants. I had a great night’s sleep there and I’m pretty sure you will, too.

Joey’s was a cute little place just behind the Safari Inn. The night we ate there, the special was all you could eat fish and chips, so we went for it. They weren’t that busy, but the service to our table was very slow, and we watched all the tables around us get served quickly. We wondered if it was because they knew we weren’t locals. When we finally got our food, it was hot, crispy and good. I was unable to get a glass of water because our waitress really wasn’t that interested in serving us for some reason. Another waitress did seem apologetic, and even gave us a nice discount as we paid our bill. We were surprised to learn that Joey’s is a chain, and later on our trip we did encounter a couple but chose not to eat there. Food: pretty good. Price: with discount, good. Service: eh.
