This was probably one of the largest non-resort hotels I have ever seen in my entire life. Walking through this hotel was like being in a rat maze. It made way more sense to park the car at the back door since we were, in fact, the room farthest from the lobby. The young man behind the counter warned us that the parking lot and the stairs were icy from the crazy weather (which they were), but with all our luggage, there was no way we were taking it the ½ mile from the front door. The ice machine on our floor was out of order so I had to hoof it up to the second floor for that: no big deal. Again, there were no bed bugs, for which we were grateful. It was comfortable, affordable and conveniently located about 15 minutes from downtown Providence. Of course, we had a handy travel coupon!
Harry’s Bar & Burger
121 North Main Street
This inexpensive find was recommended to us (and we were joined by) some dear friends who live in Providence. The milkshakes were great, and the onion rings, French fries, sliders and hot dogs were delicious. I really liked the atmosphere on the first floor where we ate – kind of burger “cellar” like, reminding me of a cross between a pub and the underground burger joints in Quebec City. I felt almost as if I were waiting to make clandestine contact while enjoying a meal in a foreign city. Okay, so I have a vivid imagination. Harry’s is right there in the historic downtown section only a couple of blocks from the Providence River. It’s definitely worth a visit!
