Review: Hotel & Restaurant in Fredericksburg, VA

Fredericksburg – 2/10/11

Comfort Inn Southpoint
5422 Jefferson Davis Hwy.
Fredericksburg, VA 22407

Sometimes the coupon booklets don’t have hotels in the cities you want to be in, so we made a little detour to Fredericksburg, which was worth it. This time I called ahead to make sure there were rooms available, and Howard at the front desk assured me they had plenty. He was just as pleasant in person. The Comfort Inn Southpoint provided a large but extremely inexpensive room, and was conveniently located near the highway and restaurants. The room was more like a mini-suite with a couch and TV area. David commented how nice of a hotel it was. Again, there were no bedbugs and no gross incidents to report. Hurray. My only issue was that once again, the outgoing Outlook Express email didn’t work here. The pet charge was only $10, so that was excellent as well.

Cracker Barrel
5200 Southpoint Parkway
Fredericksburg, VA 22407

We chose the Cracker Barrel because it was right behind our hotel. The weather was nasty, the temperature was dropping, and we figured this would be a quick, hot, hearty and convenient meal. It wasn’t as quick as we were hoping; the service was slow, possibly because they were short-staffed. David got the chicken and dumplings which he reported contained almost no chicken. The gravy was starchy and the dumplings were a cross between macaroni and dough. I got the fried catfish which was good but there wasn’t very much of it – although for $7.39 per entree I shouldn’t have expected a large quantity of anything. My mashed potatoes were cold, but my baked apples were good. David doesn’t remember what his sides were. With tip we left there for under $25 so it was what it was – a one time thing.
