Review: The Comfort Inn Oxford, AL

Comfort Inn
138 Elm Street
Oxford, Alabama 36203

Another coupon find – but this place was a little funky – not like KC and the Sunshine band funky cool but the funky when you find something in the refrigerator and aren’t certain what it is.

I’m definitely not complaining about the people behind the counter – they were all more than friendly and helpful. In fact, they were super. The hotel itself was just kind of strange. Yet again I couldn’t send email from outlook express. The next morning, their internet was down (the provider’s fault, not theirs) and I couldn’t do anything – paralyzed waiting for a very important email to come in about a television show we were supposed to be filming the next day. Shortly after we checked in, sewer gas odor started to permeate the room. We discovered it was coming from outside, so I jammed a towel under our door. The laundry room was sheltered but outside nonetheless – the washing machine leaked and within the rubber gasket surrounding the door I found two box cutters: creepy. The outer hallways seemed to form tunnels to the lobby, which conjured up thoughts of how it would be a good place to film a horror movie (keep in mind I’ve got a writer’s imagination).

All that said, the hotel room was clean and comfortable, sans bed bugs, and none of the funky stuff above would prevent us from staying there again.
