Review: Comfort Suites Moab

I have to admit – I wasn’t thrilled with Moab. First of all, it wasn’t dog-friendly AT ALL. It bordered on anti-dog. Dogs are prohibited from hiking with their owners at Arches National Park, and they even “suggest” you board your dog instead of bringing them to the park with you. Ouch.

There were no discount hotel coupons for Moab. When I asked at the Visitors’ Center, the snotty reply was “it’s off-season, you won’t find prices any lower than this.” We used our Choice Hotels directory book to look for a dog-friendly hotel. The Comfort Suites had rooms available.

The lobby was huge and spacious with a cathedral ceiling and enormous wooden beams. That style of décor extended into the rooms with natural wood bed posts and southwestern paintings. The room was very clean and comfortable, and free of bed bugs. The shower was outdated but clean. The in-room coffee was excellent, but the free breakfast the next morning was even better. The spread included real scrambled eggs, bacon, and an excellent variety of other breakfast foods.

I did run into a problem with the hotel server preventing me from sending outgoing emails through Outlook Express, but that’s never a huge factor. The desk staff was a little stand-offish and oddly dressed, but they weren’t rude or inefficient. Overall, we were pleased with our stay at the Comfort Suites Moab.
